Tom Rucker serves as Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer of Property Management at Berkshire Residential Investments. He is responsible for the overall back-of-the-house operations for property management, construction services, revenue management, training and education, utility, energy management, national purchasing, procurement, contract management, real estate tax management and financial and operational reporting for the portfolio. Tom also leads Berkshire’s ESG and sustainability initiatives via BerkshireTHRIVE and also serves on Berkshire’s Operating Committee.
Before joining Berkshire, Tom served as Vice President and Managing Director of Real Estate for Sawyer Realty Holdings, LLC, where he managed more than 30,000 units and was responsible for marketing, risk management and all property operations. He previously served as Operations Manager and Project Manager for Charles E. Smith Realty. Prior to entering the real estate industry, Tom spent eight years in the United States Navy.
Tom holds a Certified Apartment Manager (CAM®) designation from the National Apartment Association and is a Certified Property Manager (CPM®) with The Institute of Real Estate Management. Tom also currently holds a board position for the Property Management Association of Washington DC as Vice President and is an active member of the National Apartment Association, Urban Land Institute, USGBC, the Apartment and Office Building Association in Washington D.C., and the local IREM chapter. Tom’s past board affiliations include The Urban Land Institute Center for Sustainability and Economic Performance Advisory Board and the board of directors for Maryland Multifamily Housing Association.
