Jon Frey serves as Chief Operating Officer and oversees Portfolio and Asset Management, Property Operations and Redevelopment, Portfolio Accounting and Reporting, and Information Technology. He is responsible for Berkshire’s equity funds, which invest across the rental housing spectrum, and for driving collaboration and efficiency across these groups to generate strong operating and investment performance. Jon also serves as the Vice Chair of Berkshire’s Investment Committee and is a partner in the company’s ownership.
Prior to joining Berkshire, Jon was a Managing Director at The Davis Companies where he managed investor relationships, oversaw a number of the firm’s investments, was a member of the Investment Committee and Executive Committee, and helped establish the firm as an institutional fund manager with over $1 billion of capital under management. Previously, Jon was a Vice President in the opportunity fund group at AEW, where he started his real estate career. Jon has deep acquisition and development transaction experience and has invested across the capital stack, including in preferred equity, private debt, CME and CMBS positions. Prior to his real estate career, Jon spent 10 years as an executive in the technology industry, primarily in the San Francisco Bay area with Sapient Corporation where he worked with both start-ups and established companies to develop internet-based businesses. He maintains a strong interest in how technology and sustainability can improve the built environment.
Jon graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. He is a member of the Pension Real Estate Association, the National Multifamily Housing Council, and the Urban Land Institute and is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional.
